Privacy
The short version: no accounts, no ads, no tracking in the apps.
This website
- It sets no cookies. Your light or dark choice is saved in your browser only.
- Visits are counted with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which Cloudflare says does not collect visitors’ personal data.
- Page views and clicks are recorded with PostHog (in the US): which link or button you clicked and where on the page. Nothing is stored in your browser for this. PostHog tells visits apart with a code made from your IP address and browser that changes every day, and doesn’t keep your IP address.
FowyRing
- No account, no analytics, no crash reporting. FowyRing from the Mac App Store sends nothing over the network; the App Store installs and updates it.
- It asks for permission under Privacy & Security › Accessibility. It uses it to read the key you hold to open the ring and the keys you press while the ring is open, and to keep the Fn key’s own action from firing while you use the ring. It never records or sends what you type.
- Your settings and favorites stay on your Mac and are never sent anywhere. You can turn the permission off any time in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Accessibility.
- The earlier direct download (version 0.1) also checked download.fowllabs.com for updates, sending no system profile, and used Accessibility to hide menu bar apps you picked.
FowyBreak
- No account, no analytics, no crash reporting.
- The only thing it sends over the network is the update check to download.fowllabs.com. It sends no system profile, and you can turn automatic checks off in Settings. Like any web request, it shows the server your IP address and the app’s version. Installers are served by GitHub.
- FowyBreak can ask to show notifications. It only reads how long ago you last used the mouse or keyboard, never which keys or windows.
FowlVoice
- Dictation is processed on your Mac by default. FowlVoice has its own privacy page.
FowlNote
- Your notes stay on your Mac and in your own iCloud. The app sends a few anonymous usage events to PostHog, never your notes, and you can turn them off. FowlNote has its own privacy page.
